NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I just found out I can't take knitting needles of any description as part of my carryon luggage to go overseas.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO FOR FIFTEEN HOURS IF I CAN'T KNIT????

Suggestions?

Wow. That's terrible. Getting knocked unconscious sounds like a good idea to me.

Take some worsted yarn and a couple of pair of pencils!

Get yourself a lucet and make a few miles of lovely square braid with some "left-over" wools. Of course, what you do with the braid after that is another question.

Before my UK trip two years ago I came up with a pretty good knitting needle alternative: lengths of whipper snipper/lawn edge trimmer cord, the ends trimmed and smoothed to roundish points. I also needed to soften up and uncurl them a bit by warming them over a candle.

Because they have no solid, straight part they can't be used to stab anyone, and look more like some sort of coil for holding stitches to security staff. You've also got to make them short enough that security can't plausibly argue they could be used to garotte anyone - which I've heard they've done before.

I successfully knit part of a sock with these on the plane, using the 2 circs method. There's plenty left in the pack, too, so if you want to make your own, you're welcome to take some.

Otherwise, take books, mags, podcasts and music. I found I didn't itch to knit as much as I'd expected. Flying always puts me in a bit of a daze.

You can't? The HORROR! I thought they'd done away with that ridiculous rule.

You could always bring 5 pencils and knit a chunky yarn sock or scarf.......and then stab them in the eye if they complain.

Oh. Maybe not.

Take wooden needles or a Temazepam. The latter gets a horrendous journey out of the way, does away with jetlag, and lets you wake without a hangover and ready to go. Dave might like one too.
